Easy Ribbed Baby Booties Crochet Pattern

Featured image placeholder: soft peach baby booties on ivory muslin beside a folded dusty blue blanket.

These ribbed baby booties are a sweet small project for a shower basket or welcome gift. The pattern is written for an approximate 0 to 3 month size, but babies grow at different rates and yarn changes the finished measurement. Measure the finished sole rather than relying only on the age label.

Supplies

  • 60 to 75 yd DK baby yarn
  • 3.75 mm crochet hook, or hook needed for gauge
  • 2 stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors

Gauge and finished size

Gauge: 18 hdc and 14 rounds = 4 in. Finished sole: about 3.5 in long. Sizing assumption: this is a soft indoor bootie, not footwear for walking.

Abbreviations

ch = chain, sl st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double crochet, hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 together, BLO = back loop only, st = stitch.

Make two

  1. Sole round 1: Ch 9. Work 2 hdc in second ch from hook, hdc in next 6 ch, 5 hdc in last ch. Continue along the other side of the chain, hdc in next 6 ch, 3 hdc in first ch. Join. You have 22 sts.
  2. Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in last 3 sts. Join. You have 32 sts.
  3. Round 3: Ch 1, hdc around in BLO only. Join with 32 sts.
  4. Round 4: Ch 1, hdc in next 10 sts, hdc2tog 6 times, hdc in last 10 sts. Join with 26 sts.
  5. Round 5: Ch 1, hdc in next 8 sts, hdc2tog 5 times, hdc in last 8 sts. Join with 21 sts.
  6. Cuff rounds 6 to 10: Ch 1, hdc in BLO around. Keep 21 sts each round.
  7. Final round: Sc loosely around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Gift note

For gifting, attach a small card with the fiber content and care instructions from the yarn label. Avoid buttons, beads, long ties, or loose decorations on baby booties unless the caregiver requests them and understands the supervision needed.
